The International R&D Project Management & Strategic Operations group forms part of the Global Department, and is focused on managing projects effectively and integrating strategy and operations to deliver the best R&D pipeline and bring products to patients more quickly. Our vision is achieved through portfolio prioritisation, lifecycle management, capacity management and efficient use of resources, cross-functional alignment, risk management, training and compliance. R&D Project Management & Strategic Operations incorporates three distinct functions: Planning, Portfolio and Capacity Management (PPCM); R&D Standards & R&D Training.
- Planning, Portfolio and Capacity Management (PPCM) - The Planning, Portfolio & Capacity Management (PPCM) Group facilitates delivery of Amgen’s pipeline goals through enabling cross-project and cross-functional management of our programmes and FTE resources. We design and implement processes, analytics and systems to drive project portfolio prioritisation, programme reviews, strategy development, resource/capacity planning and risk management.
Through pipeline analysis, tracking and reporting, we provide the single source of milestone and FTE information to efficiently align the organisation in planning and execution. We generate integrated workload and capacity data for the R&D Departments, determining functional resource requirements, bottlenecks and provide scenario analyses to support project and cross-functional resource allocation decisions.
Through establishing integrated cross-functional frameworks and best practices for rigorous program strategy development and risk planning with Project Management, we further strengthen the link between strategy and performance of our project portfolio.
- The R&D Standards Group creates, implements, and maintains global development policies, procedures, forms, templates and other supporting documents. We provide oversight on standards structure and process, and facilitate standards skill development in the functions.
R&D Standards leads the organisation in setting and maintaining standards and ensuring the timely development, content and revision of Global Development controlled documents. We ensure internal standards meet Amgen’s quality requirements, represent best practices and adhere to global regulatory requirements. We also strive to ensure coherence, continuity and consistency among global and country standards.
- The R&D Training group plans and delivers technical, therapeutic area, and compliance training, ensuring that training needs are met and that staff training records are maintained to meet compliance requirements. We ensure timely development of training to support the implementation and reinforcement of Global Development policies and procedures and manage internal/external technical training programmes to meet Amgen’s quality requirements.
Using adult learning principles and practices, we plan and deliver education and training for the Global R&D organisation in science, technology, compliance, project management, process improvement projects and commercialisation.
