Cambridge-based biotechnology company gains prestigious national award
 

CAMBRIDGE, UK - 6 March 2006 - Cambridge Science Park-based biotechnology company, Amgen, is officially one of the best companies to work for in the UK. The company is ranked 41 in its category of the highly prestigious Sunday Times list of the 100 Best Companies To Work For 2006, published this week (5 March 2006).
 
Amgen has been at the forefront of biotechnology for 25 years, with a base in Cambridge for more than 15 years. Its medicines for have helped millions of patients in the fight against cancer, kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis and other serious illnesses around the world. The company employs more 16,000 people globally.
 
Commenting on the company’s success, at the first time of entry in the awards, Amgen UK and Ireland Human Resources Director, Gary Sagar, said: “Amgen is an exciting and vibrant place to work. We are also driven by the knowledge that our medicines are helping patients to fight serious diseases.

The Sunday Times Top 100 list is unique in that 90% of the marks are awarded from a confidential survey of employees, picked at random. Responses are given by employees to 70 questions about life in their organisation.

Amgen is no stranger to accolades for its employee programmes. In 2005 it was ranked second in the US Science magazine’s best biotechnology and pharmaceutical employers, and third among the top 10 large companies in The Scientist magazine’s ‘Best Places to Work in Industry’.
