Patient Advocacy Group Funding
Amgen partners with patient advocacy groups for the benefit of patients and in a way that is true to the Industry Codes of Practice and Amgen's policy. Amgen is committed to making public the scope of its partnerships in the UK & Ireland in order to increase transparency. This includes stating the amount of funding that Amgen provides each year.
For the purposes of transparency and clarity, the following declarations include donations and sponsorships provided by Amgen Limited (UK), Amgen Ireland Limited, and also donations and sponsorships made by Amgen GmbH (Europe) and Amgen Inc. (USA) to patient advocacy organisations based in the UK and Ireland.
Basil Skyers Myeloma Foundation
The Basil Skyers Myeloma Foundation provides services and practical support for patients with multiple myeloma, their families and carers. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided a donation of £7,000 to support the charity to undertake an independent qualitative exploration into the views of black Caribbean and black African communities on clinical trials and clinical trial participation.
Beating Bowel Cancer and Bowel Cancer UK
Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer have joined together to stop bowel cancer. The charity is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. Together, they are determined to save lives, improve the quality of life and support all those affected by bowel cancer. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided sponsorship of £9,000 to sponsor three nurse study days and £7,000 to support the production and publication of patient information.
Cancer Campaigning Group
The Cancer Campaigning Group (CCG) is a coalition of national cancer-related charities representing service providers, research, advocacy and campaigning groups for cancer patients and their families. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided sponsorship of £17,000 for 2016 and 2017 corporate membership.
Diabetes UK is the leading UK charity for people affected by diabetes. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided sponsorship of £32,395 in sponsorship for exhibition space and exhibitor passes at the 2017 Diabetes UK Professional Conference.
Kidney Care UK (formerly British Kidney Patient Association)
Kidney Care UK is the leading kidney patient support charity providing advice, support and financial assistance to thousands every year. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) reimbursed the charity £20 for the supply of printed information.
Findacure is a UK charity that builds the rare diseases community to drive research and develop treatments. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided a donation of £3,000 to support a patient workshop.
HEART UK’s aim is to prevent premature deaths caused by high cholesterol. HEART UK is committed to raising awareness about the risks of high cholesterol, lobbying for better detection of those at risk and supporting health professional training. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided a donation of £7,500 to help the charity to develop its Ambassador Programme; £41,250 in sponsorship for exhibition space and symposia at its 2017 and 2018 Annual Conferences; £39,000 for membership to HEART UK’s Campaigning Committee and Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Action Group.
ITP Support Association
The ITP Support Association is a UK registered charity which aims to promote and improve the general welfare of patients, and the families of patients with immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided a donation of £5,000 to support the ITP Support Association in its education and awareness raising activities and £10,000 in sponsorship to support its 20th Patient Convention, plus £3,400 in sponsorship for four ‘ITP On The Road’ meetings to support patients.
Kidney Research UK
Kidney Research UK is the leading charity committed to developing treatments, patient information and raising vital public awareness to help save lives. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided £7,000 in sponsorship for the Kidney Research Fellows Day and £2,500 for work to create a slide set and accompanying voice-over.
Leukaemia CARE exists to provide vital care and support to all those whose lives have been affected by blood or lymphatic cancer. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided a grant of £10,000 to support new projects focusing on the education and training of haematology nurses. In addition, sponsorship of £500 was provided for a Young People versus Blood Cancer Nurses Conference.
Melanoma Patient Conference CIC
Melanoma Patient Conference CIC has worked with patients and the medical profession to create a programme for an annual national event to provide information for patients on the current systems of care, treatment access and support for melanoma. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided a donation of £7,000 to support its annual conference.
Myeloma UK aims to help myeloma patients live longer and with a better quality of life. The charity focuses on accelerating the discovery and development and access to new treatments, while helping patients and their families cope with everything a diagnosis of myeloma brings. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) supported Myeloma UK with a grant of £100,000 to provide a range of services to patients and their families, plus an additional £244.66 in speaker fees.
National Kidney Federation
The National Kidney Federation is the largest kidney patient charity in the UK. It is run by kidney patients, for kidney patients. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) granted a donation of £5,000 to support the charity.
National Osteoporosis Society
The National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) is the only UK wide charity dedicated to improving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and fragility fractures. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided £4,200 in relation to sponsorship activities for the NOS Clinical Update meetings. In addition, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided £2,624.99 in sponsorship to support local meetings, £5,000 with a donation to support the core costs of the charity, £3,650 to support the charity’s work regarding Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) and £1,100 in speaker fees.
The Stroke Association
The Stroke Association is the UK's leading stroke charity changing the world for people affected by stroke. More people than ever are benefitting from cutting-edge treatments and making full recoveries. More people now understand the need to seek emergency treatment for stroke. In 2017, Amgen Ltd (UK) provided sponsorship of £3,032 to exhibit at the UK Stroke Forum and £10,000 to sponsor the ‘A New Era for Stroke’ campaign.

National Osteoporosis Society
The National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) is the only UK wide charity dedicated to improving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and fragility fractures. In 2017, Amgen Ireland Ltd provided £14,160 in relation to meetings and £5,234.35 in speaker fees for Fracture Liaison Service activities to share best practice from the UK with Ireland.

Beating Bowel Cancer and Bowel Cancer UK
Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer research charity. It is determined to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer. In 2017, Amgen Inc. (USA) provided sponsorship of $75,000 to support the Get Tested campaign.
EuropaColon aims to unite patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, politicians, the media and the public in the fight against digestive cancers. The organisation works with 43 groups in 32 European countries and has been recognised as the voice of colorectal cancer patients in Europe. In 2017, Amgen GmbH (Europe) provided €20,000 as a corporate grant.
FH Europe The European FH Patient Network
FH Europe The European FH Patient Network is actively working together to secure early identification and diagnosis of FH patients to prevent early cardiovascular disease. FH affects around 1 in 250 people but the prevalence may vary across Europe. In 2017, Amgen GmbH (Europe) provided funding of £62,000 to support the network.
In 2017, Amgen GmbH (Europe) provided £1,032.53 and €734.03 for accommodation and honoraria associated with participation in a Steering Committee.
Kidney Research UK
In 2017, Amgen GmbH (Europe) provided a £2,000 donation to the organisation.
International Alliance of Patient Organizations (IAPO)
IAPO is a unique global alliance representing patients of all nations across all disease areas and promoting patient-centred healthcare across the world. In 2017, Amgen GmBH (Europe) provided sponsorship of $50,000 for a health industry partnership. In addition, $2,500 (CAD) was provided as an honorarium for an IAPO board member to take part in an advisory board meeting discussing patient-centred healthcare.
