AMGEN UK AND IRELAND ACHIEVES GOLD AT THE MIND WORKPLACE WELLBEING AWARDS

119 Organisations Participated In The Workplace Wellbeing Index With Just 19 Achieving The Top Gold Award

CAMBRIDGE, UK – (18th July 2022) – Amgen UK and Ireland has been recognised at the Mind Workplace Wellbeing Awards for its commitment to mental health and workplace wellbeing. The company, with sites in Cambridge, Uxbridge, and Dublin, was one of 119 organisations to participate in the sixth annual Workplace Wellbeing Index. Amgen was recognised with a Gold Award at its first attempt of entering.

The online event, hosted by Mind’s Chief Executive Paul Farmer, saw people from a wide range of organisations come together to celebrate the awards. Achieving a Gold Award means Amgen has successfully embedded mental health into its policies and practices, and demonstrated a long-term, in-depth commitment to staff mental health.

As a benchmark of best policy and practice, Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Index celebrates the good work employers are doing to promote and support positive mental health, as well as provide recommendations on the specific areas for future improvement. Mind surveyed almost 42,000 employees across the 119 employers participating in the Index, which included a mix of returning organisations eager to assess the impact of their newly implemented wellbeing initiatives as well as first-time organisations starting their journey to improve employee wellbeing.

Amgen has a series of dedicated staff engagement programmes in the UK and Ireland to build a sense of community, connection, and embed good mental health and wellbeing practices. These have been expanded in recent years, reflecting the growing need for Amgen’s community – and society in general – to be more conscious of mental health and wellbeing and to look out for those around you. The feedback gathered from Amgen staff through the Workplace Wellbeing Index revealed that:

  • 97% feel that Amgen runs initiatives to raise awareness of mental health

  • 91% feel that Amgen consults staff on how to promote wellbeing at work

  • 82% feel that Amgen encourages openness and discussion about mental health

Kath Gould, HR Director at Amgen UK and Ireland, said: “Two years ago, we embarked on a journey to better support the mental wellbeing of our staff. This decision was taken in light of the impact of the pandemic and the increasing prevalence of poor mental health within our society. Since creating a new wellbeing framework for our staff in the UK and Ireland, we have invested in building a capability in supporting mental health, through awareness sessions, leader education, access to mental health resources, protected wellbeing time, and creating a network of mental health first aiders, amongst other things.

“We are now delighted to be recognised by Mind, the UK’s leading mental health charity, in the annual Workplace Wellbeing Awards. Achieving a Gold Award at the first attempt of entering is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates Amgen’s commitment to creating a mentally healthy workplace.

“This recognition wouldn’t have been possible without support from our staff. This has not been a leadership initiative – our wellbeing culture has been created by a myriad of contributors, from our mental health first aiders, wellbeing ambassadors, managers, functional leaders, community of connectors, and every single staff member who showed through their actions and role modelling that ‘it’s ok not to be ok’.

“This award marks a special milestone for our UK and Ireland community as we continue to shape a culture in which all our staff can thrive.”
